Written by songwriter Scott Hutchinson from the band Frightened Rabbit, “My Backwards Walk'' is a passionate song about a man struggling to fight his demons. He uses a metaphor of a pencil to describe his relationship and life battles. Most breakup songs blame the other person, yet in this beautifully scripted song, Hutchinson denounces himself. This song is an emotional rollercoaster and ends with Hutchinson concluding that he is hopeless and there is no way out.
Sadly, Hutchinson took his life at the age of 36. Following his death, many artists and bands, such as Manchester Orchestra, paid tribute to him. To honor him, the indie-rock band based in Atlanta, covered one of his greatest songs, My Backwards Walk. The song begins with a 4 chord guitar line and the instruments and vocals grow more emotional as the song continues. This heartfelt song is a must-listen!
